Navista practices honor National Cancer Survivors Day
Every year on the first Sunday in June the cancer community recognizes National Cancer Survivors Day, honoring the nearly 19 million Americans currently living with cancer or who have had a history of cancer.
Several Navista alliance member practices recently held survivor day events to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day 2026 (June 7) and National Cancer Survivors Month (June). At each event highlighted below, providers, care teams and staff showcased each practice’s commitment to providing patient-centered care at every step of the cancer journey while celebrating survivors and families:
cCARE Fresno Survivorship Event, May 16, Fresno, CA
• Nearly 200 people gathered to celebrate community and show support, enjoying live music, wellness activities and 27 vendors including acupuncture, nutrition and massage.
• The annual event showcased how cCARE offers more than treatment, providing resources for patients, caregivers and loved ones.
• The program, emceed by local DJ and breast cancer survivor Jodi Jo, featured remarks from breast surgical oncologist Casandra Anderson, MD, who presented endometrial cancer survivor Niki Xayboutda with a plaque honoring her journey. Niki emphasized that no one fights cancer alone.
cCARE South Thriving as a Survivor Event, May 27, Encinitas, CA
• cCARE South connected patients to community support services including acupuncture, cancer fitness programs, post-surgery products and genetic testing.
• Attendees enjoyed healthy food, a photo booth, an interactive art station and a raffle with prizes.
• Breast cancer survivor Kim Wise, now seven years cancer-free, shared her story of resilience and community. Medical oncologist Alberto Bessudo, MD, reinforced the importance of ongoing support.
Cancer Care & Urology of North Florida Patient Appreciation Day, May 28, Lake City, FL
• Current and former patients, families and providers gathered for fellowship and appreciation.
• Attendees enjoyed a DJ and raffles featuring gift baskets and clothing from a local survivor-owned boutique.
• Medical Director Waseem Kahn, MD, and VP of Operations Jeff Rubin shared remarks and spent time connecting with patients and families outside the clinical setting.
South Bay Radiation Oncology Cancer Survivor Event, May 30, Chula Vista, CA
• The event fostered community and inspiration, reinforcing that the cancer journey does not end at remission.
• Survivors, patients, families and providers enjoyed food, music, dancing and wellness activities.
• Radiation oncologist Gina Mansy, MD, highlighted the practice’s commitment to emotional and social support.
Mojave Radiation Oncology Superheroes of Hope Event, June 6, 2026, Apple Valley, CA
• More than 100 attendees participated in an event focused on strengthening connections between patients, survivors and providers.
• Participants accessed local resources and enjoyed ice cream, face painting and a DJ.
• Apple Valley Mayor Scot Nassif and Town Council member Kati Leon spoke, alongside patient and volunteer Roni Bailey. A grief counselor and exercise specialist also presented.
San Bernardino Cancer Care Center Superheroes of Hope Event, June 7, 2026, San Bernardino, CA
• More than 100 attendees gathered to celebrate survivors with food, games, an ice cream truck, music and activities.
• City Council Member Mario Flores presented a proclamation recognizing June 7, 2026, as National Cancer Survivors Day and thanked the clinic for its care.
• Radiation therapist Gerald Powell shared his personal cancer journey, noting that no one expects the diagnosis but everyone is impacted.
• Breast cancer survivor Mary Tauge emphasized that cancer is part of her story but does not define her.
Sunflowers were a common theme across events, symbolizing each practice’s commitment to patients and families in their survivorship journey. Sunflowers face one another when the sun goes down and the world darkens, illustrating the importance of community and support.
