Community Oncology’s Biggest Battles—and How to Fight Back

Navista General Manager Diana Verrilli recently sat down with the American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC) to discuss the most pressing challenges facing community oncology practices and strategies to address them.

In the interview conducted at the 2026 Community Oncology Alliance conference, Verrilli highlights three primary pressures shaping the landscape: increasing regulatory and administrative burden, complex payer dynamics and contracting, and the growing threat of cybersecurity risks. She notes that requirements such as prior authorization continue to strain practices and delay care, while many organizations lack the infrastructure to manage sophisticated cyber threats.

Verrilli’s remarks also underscore the persistent barriers to patient access, particularly for advanced therapies. She emphasizes the importance of demonstrating total cost of care and long-term value to payers and employers, as well as strengthening local care models and partnerships to expand access in community settings.

Drawing on her nearly 25 years of experience working with community oncology practices, Verrilli reinforces the need for scale, collaboration and a patient-centered approach to help practices navigate complexity and continue delivering exceptional patient care close to home.
