World Cancer Day 2025: Championing People-Centered Cancer Care

Every year on February 4, the oncology community commemorates World Cancer Day, an initiative designed to unite the world in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. During the annual observance cancer stakeholders around the world come together to raise awareness and redouble their efforts on reducing the global impact of cancer. This year’s World Cancer Day focus is “United by Unique—Championing People-Centered Cancer Care.”

While patient-centered care is widely discussed, it’s a broad term that can mean different things to different people. To further explore the multifaceted concept, we asked several Navista leaders to define and describe patient-centered care from their unique business, clinical, technology and operations perspectives.

Here’s what they shared:

Chief Medical & Development Officer

“Patient-centered care literally means the patient is at the center, and that everyone—from clinicians to front desk staff—always puts the patient first. Patient-centered care isn’t just about choosing the best therapy; it’s about taking a step back, looking at the bigger picture and considering whether or how something is done benefits a patient.”

Kayln Bartley

Andrea Balogh

VP, Growth & Development

Patient-centered care means the patient is at the core of everything we do, and the reason why we all do what we do every day to tirelessly support our physicians. It means making care easier to navigate and expanding services to ensure we can address most if not all patient needs under one roof.”

VP, Commercial Technology & Digital Transformation

“Two major tenets of patient-centered cancer care are effective communication and personalization. Technology can play a big role in helping practices personalize interactions, enable better engagement and support stronger, more secure communication to close care gaps.”

Kayln Bartley

Andrew Slusser

VP, Strategy & Transformation

“Patient-centered care means designing the patient journey and experience around the unique needs and circumstances of each individual patient. It involves viewing every interaction from the patient’s perspective and continuously asking how we can make something easier, less stressful and more supportive.

VP, Operations

“Patient-centered care to me means the patient sits in the center of the vast healthcare value chain. When I think about all the value delivered by all these different entities, I see operations as the apparatus and the means through which all value is delivered to the patient."

Katelyn Jacquay, JD, MHA

VP, Physician Alliance Development

“Patient-centered care is more than just medical care; it’s a holistic view of the cancer journey. To do this well, practices must gather the right intelligence and insights, all while considering health equity and access, to truly meet patients and families where they are.”
